Roman Catechism (Catechism of the Council of Trent, RC)

June 24, 2010

The preparation of this catechism was ordered by the Council of Trent on December 13, 1545, to codify Catholic teaching against heresies being taught by the Protestants.  It is addressed primarily to parish priests, but can be read with great profit by all Catholics.  It was promulgated by Pope St. Pius V in 1566.  It was used almost universally until the middle of the 20th century, and is still the most useful, informative, and concise Catholic catechism.  It has been reprinted in an excellent edition by TAN Books.
